The Southland softball team won its second game in as many days Friday, taking it to their guests from Goodhue by the count of 12-2 at Rose Creek.

"We hadn't played very much because of the bad weather at the start of the season," said Southland head coach Karleen Retterath, "but now that we've got some of the jitters out of the way, it's starting to come together for us."

The Rebels took control of the game with an eight-run third inning, capitalizing on a number of walks with some key hits, including a triple by Amanda Landherr.

Amy Walerak went the distance for the win, allowing only one earned run on two hits.

Goodhue is now 1-12 on the season, while Southland improves to 4-4 in Three Rivers Conference play and 5-5 overall. The Rebels take on Plainview at home on Tuesday.

LOGM softball sinks K-W for second straight win

LOGM pounced on their hapless visitors from Kenyon-Wanamingo Friday, getting 18 hits en route to a 10-6 softball win in Grand Meadow.

"It was a big hitting night for us," said LOGM head coach Dawn Baudoin.

All nine LOGM starters had at least one hit. Nikki Brogan went 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs to lead the way. Melissa Theobald was 3-4 and drove in three, while Brittany Bunne, Brittany Stejskal, Cassie Denisen and Ashley Swancutt all had two hits.

Swancutt was tagged for all six K-W runs in her two innings of work. Denisen relieved her and proceeded to throw four innings of shutout ball to get the win, fanning seven in the process.

LOGM is now 3-6 on the year heading into a home game with Glenville-Emmons Monday in Grand Meadow.

S/GM golfers get back into swing of things at home

After taking its lumps at the beginning of the season, the Southland/Grand Meadow golf team is starting to play some high quality golf. They captured their second straight win Friday, taking out Rushford-Peterson 154-161 at Cedar River Country Club.

"Another outstanding performance by our boys," said S/GM head coach Wayne Robertson. "We had good balance, I can't remember the last time we had all four golfers under 40."

Eric Kiefer and A.J. Wiste both fired 38s to lead S/GM, tying them with R-P's Eric Haugen for medalist honors. Lee Kulow and Brady Lorenzen were right on their heels though with a pair of 39s.

S/GM has now won two in a row in convincing fashion after losing some close matches earlier in the spring. They are 2-4 in conference play and 3-4 overall.
