Thomas Harlan Kitzman, 67

Thomas Harlan Kitzman, age 67 of Austin, Minnesota died peacefully on Sunday, December 10th, 2023 in his Summerville South Carolina home, surrounded by family. He was born April 27, 1956 in Austin, Minnesota to Joseph and Susan (Maas) Kitzman.

Tom attended Pacelli and Austin High school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1974 as a Boiler Technician. Tom’s father, also a Boiler Operator, inspired and helped lead him into this career field. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Tom attended vocational school for carpentry giving him the skills to build the beautiful furniture we all knew and loved. On Feb 7th, 1987, he married Susan Rector in Austin MN, they celebrated a wonderful 36 year marriage. Tom continued to make his living as a Power Plant Operator at the Austin Utilities. He retired in 2015 after 22 years of faithful service.

Tom loved his family and enjoyed camping, Kitzman reunions, wood working, snowmobiling, motorcycles and working in his garage. He was dedicated, meticulous and always gave his best to everyone.

He was baptized in 2016 at the Church of Christ by his son, David. With the Lord by his side, Tom fought a long battle with cancer. His life was full with family, good friends, good times, and a loved one’s touch. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tom is survived by his wife, Susan; son, David (Stacy) Hastings; 5 grandchildren; sister, Karen (Ed) Peterson; 5 brothers David (Karen) Kitzman, Mike (Joey) Kitzman, Brian (Irene) Kitzman, Mark (Sandy) Kitzman, and John Kitzman. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Susan, son Jeremy, brothers Phillip and Kenny.

Celebration of Life will be in Austin, MN, planned at a later date.
