Donna Gale Hunter passed away in April 2024 at the age of 92 while residing in Tucson, AZ. She was born in Austin, MN on March 5, 1932. She was preceded in death by husband, Paul Hunter, son-in-law, Dan Baerg, and grandson, Chase DeDominces and survived by her children: Brenda Hunter, Rodney Hunter, daughter-in-law Sarah Hunter, Terrie DeDominces, and son-in-law Rod DeDominces; grandchildren: Luke Hunter, Samuel Hunter, Brooke Hunter.

After her children started attending school, Donna began working as a secretary at Austin Community College. She retired in 1991 after more than 20 years of service. During this time and throughout her life Donna was a prolific crafter, whether it was sewing, knitting, painting, drawing, ceramics, or any other activity she tried – many of her creations will continue to endure.      After retiring, Donna began her first round as a volunteer at the Austin Hospital as a “pink lady”. Even though she enjoyed that work, she realized that caring for animals (especially cats) was more of her passion, so she switched to volunteering with the Austin Humane Society. She worked there until her move to Tucson.

Donna liked to travel and started touring the United States on bus trips. After she had visited every state on the mainland, Donna became a frequent cruiser, covering most of the world on almost 25 cruises over 20 years. Donna made friends everywhere, being willing to talk with anyone (this was how she earned her “CB nickname” of “Windy Gale”).

As Donna neared the end of her life, she frequently said that she had a family she loved and was proud of, and that she had done everything she could ever want to do. May we all be blessed to end a life with those thoughts.

A memorial service will be held in Tucson, AZ at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 15. If you would like to watch it livestreamed at 12:30 pm Minnesota time, please email dhuntermemorial@gmail.com for information on how to access the service online.
