Marvel Oxley

Marvel Elaine Oxley floated away on the clouds with angels on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Marvel Elaine was born to Ole and Oma Jordanger on a farm near Kanawha, Iowa on June 20, 1929. She grew up working on the family farm milking cows, raising chickens and taking care of the horses.

When she was a sophomore in high school she met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Oxley. Their first date was spent at the skating rink. Marvel said the happiest day of her life was August 2,1947 when she and Dick were united in holy matrimony. Marvel and her parents arrived at the church late, having gotten a flat tire on the way to the wedding. When they finally arrived at the church, they found Dick dressed in his suit sitting dejectedly on the front steps. He thought Marvel had changed her mind and had left him at the altar. After getting married they spent their honeymoon in Yellowstone National Park.

In 1960 the couple moved to their forever home near Taopi, Minnesota and raised 3 children, Peggy, Kelly, and Patty. Marvel was a great cook and an amazing mom. She was also the Postmaster of Taopi for 24 years.

Marvel loved vacations “Up North” at the cabin on Leech Lake. Many years of great memories, always with her family close. Later in life she watched her grandchildren and then great grandchildren grow up. Horse riding, camping, or gator rides. She was always busy.

In 2015 she moved into assisted living in Adams. She spent time with friends, played bingo, and watched the entertainment surrounding her. Family visited often and the heat was left on so no one was cold!

Marvel was 95 years old when she passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 28, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dick Oxley; three sisters; one brother; and her parents.

Marvel is survived by her three children, Peggy (Brian) Bergan, Kelly (LaRae) Oxley, and Patty (Randy) Eastvold; six grandchildren, Ryan (Katy) Oxley, Shannan (Mike) Dreyer, Megan (Alex) Padilla, Nate (MaKayla) Oxley, Cody (Christa) Eastvold, and Cole (Megan) Eastvold; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild all of which she loved to spoil with cookies and candy.

Thank you to the care givers of Cedar Court and Mayo Hospice for your loving support. She loved you all.

She will be missed by all of us!
