At 7 p.m. on Sept. 18 in Knowlton Auditorium, premier piano soloist Osip Nikiforov will be offering a free concert on Austin’s prized Fazioli piano to Austin community members as part of the Blair Lawhead Celebration of Music Concert.
Prior to the concert, Osip will work with Austin High School music students on the newly refurbished Steinway Piano. This refurbishment was a community funded endeavor, including a significant amount raised by previous concerts.
“The Austin High School Music Hall of Fame is a great opportunity to honor the rich tradition of Austin’s music programming,” said Brandon Lawhead. “Blair Lawhead was an inaugural recipient of this honor. But the heart of a Hall of Fame is not in self-adulation, but in giving back to the community and other musicians.”
If anyone is moved to donate money, all funds will be given to the Austin High School Music Hall of Fame.
“The Blair Lawhead concerts have attempted to enrich Austin by presenting community members with elite musical performances that reach a level one would expect at Carnegie Hall,” Lawhead said. “Additionally, these concerts seek to raise money for music education, while celebrating the history of Austin’s great music educators, like Susan Radloff, Sonia Larson, Millie Masse, David Jordahl, and Richard Larson. These music educators, along with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, are the bedrock to Austin’s tradition of musical greatness. Hopefully, these concerts can help perpetuate this legacy.”
