Grass, dirt and paved trails all will be in the mix Saturday for an 8K race at Austin’s Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.
After years without it, the 8K race — about five miles — returned last October thanks to the nonprofit Friends of the Hormel Nature Center. This race offers a route that does not repeat any parts of the trail.
Runners and walkers for the 8K race will start at 9 a.m. at the Nature Center’s interpretive center, 1304 21st Street NE. Cost for the 8K is $30 per person, including a T-shirt. Any additional shirts will be $20 in adult sizes.
Funds raised will go to the Friends of the Hormel Nature Center to support projects and programs at the center.
Running the route is not required; last year, a handful of participants enjoyed walking the five miles.
After the 8K race starts, an all-ages, 1-mile “fun run” will start at 9:15 a.m. Cost is $5 per person; no T-shirt is included for the “fun run.”
Go online through today to pre-register for the event at hormelnaturecenter.org/nature-center-8k or sign up at the race, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Sponsors for the event include Discover Austin, Minnesota, South Central Athlete, Overby Orthodontics, Belita Schindler and Hy-Vee Foods.
