A pair of Austin senior swimmers continued to create a lasting impact on their team as the Packers beat Rochester John Marshall 96-75 in Bud Higgins Pool Thursday.

Seniors Anita Rao and Anna Kossman led the team with their voices and by example and they walked away with a feeling of satisfaction, while also acknowledging their time in the pool is coming closer to an end as the Packers have just two dual meets remaining in the regular season.

“It’s sad to see that it’s coming to an end for us seniors, but we’re making it fun and it’s been fun over the years. I’m glad that I got to be part of this team and everything that we’ve done,” said Kossman. “Being positive is a key factor. You have to keep yourself and your teammates positive and you have to make sure everyone’s mental health is in good standing. I think we’re doing a really good job as a team this year.”

Kossman swam on the first place 200-medley and 200-freestyle relay teams, she took first in the 200-individual medley and second in the 100-yard butterfly.

Rao did her part as a captain as she kept all of her teammates involved throughout the meet.

“Swimming is definitely a grind sport and once you get halfway through the season, practices really start to physically exhaust you,” Rao said. “In this sport, you kind of plateau in tenth grade for girls, but I really feel like it has helped me develop my leadership skills. It’s been fun to lead the team and create a big family. It’s really fun to get the team fun and energized. We keep the energy up and that’s a really big part of the meets.”
