Wayne Robertson

Wayne A. Robertson, of Rose Creek, Minnesota, passed away on October 13, 2024 after a long illness with Pulmonary Fibrosis from serving in Vietnam.

Wayne was born April 25, 1943 to Clifford and Ruth (Priem) Robertson on the family farm in Mitchell County, Iowa.

He grew up on a farm in north Iowa and graduated 8th grade from a one room country school house. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1961 where he was very active. A very good athlete, he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. He also participated in band, singing, class plays, and Future Teachers of America. He graduated from State College of Iowa (now University of Northern Iowa). He also sang with the Varsity Men’s Glee Club for 4 years and played football for 4 years. He was later inducted into the UNI Athletic Football Hall of Fame. After college, he was drafted, May 1967, into the U. S. Army and served two years, with one year in Vietnam.

On September 25, 1971, Wayne married Rita Nedved at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, Iowa. They were happily married for 53 years. They raised 2 sons, Mark and Tim and have 4 grandchildren.

He taught physical education and history in Austin for one year and then taught special education for Southland Schools in Adams, Minnesota for 30 years until his retirement. At Southland, Wayne coached volleyball for 2 years, football for 17 years, and Golf for 30 years. His golf teams were quite successful winning several conference and district titles. Wayne was a very good golfer, winning golf trophies in 6 different decades and making 5 holes-in-one. He loved playing golf with family and friends.

Wayne was active in his community. He served on the Rose Creek City Council, was an election judge, and was a Rose Creek volunteer fireman for 34 years. He served on the Little Cedar Church Council, sang in the choir, and was a reader. He served two terms on the Cedar River Golf Course board of directors. He was very active in the Adams American Legion Post 146 serving as Commander, Vice-Commander, Adjutant, Sergeant-at-Arms, and on the Honor Guard for funerals.

Wayne and Rita loved to travel after retirement. They took many motor coach tours throughout the United States, traveled to Europe twice, and spent several winter months in Mesa, Arizona with friends.

Most of all, Wayne loved being a husband, father, grandfather and brother. He remarked many times how very proud he was of his family, especially his sons and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Ruth Robertson, infant twin brother and sister, and brother-in-law Ron Nedved.

Wayne is survived by his Wife, Rita (Nedved) Robertson of Rose Creek, MN; Son, Mark (Maria) Robertson, grandson Max and granddaughter Maya, Maple Grove, MN; Son, Tim (Kim) Robertson, granddaughters Kendall and Katey, Nicollet, MN; Brother, Gary (Karen) Robertson, St. Ansgar, IA; Sister, Judy (Don) Ask, St. Ansgar, IA; Sister-in-law, Gwen Nedved, Britt, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 18th at Little Cedar Lutheran Church, Adams, Minnesota with the Reverend Kristen Anderson officiating. Visitation will be at the Adams Funeral Home on Thursday, October 17th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and continue at the church on Friday, one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Rose Creek, Minnesota with the Adams American Legion Post 146 in charge of military honors. Part of his ashes will later be interred at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota.
