A dog, being walked with its owner, discovered a human finger Tuesday.

Jennifer Wasko, 22 of 1712 Second Ave. SE, told Austin police she was walking her dog Tuesday morning in southeast Austin. At some point during the walk, she observed something in the mouth of her dog. When she examined it, she discovered what she believed to be a human finger.

Wasko took the object to the Austin Medical Center emergency room, where it was verified to be a finger.

AMC personnel told Wasko, according to the police report, the finger was "no good" and disposed of it.

Police and AMC personnel theorized the finger may have been detached Monday in a snowblower incident after an 11-inch snowfall covered Austin. An ER patient was seen Monday, according to reports, who lost a finger when adjusting his snowblower.

The woman told Austin Police Department investigators she and the dog began their walk in the area of Seventh Avenue SE and walked to 18th Avenue and then to Fourth Avenue.

According to the police report, the AMC emergency personnel determined the finger could not be reattached if the individual who lost it was located.

After Monday's heavy snowfall, a warmup on Tuesday accompanied by a snow melt apparently allowed the woman's dog to find the finger.
