LEROY — Highway 56 reconstruction is completed in LeRoy, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The final paving layer will be completed in spring of 2025. Crews have marked the road with temporary striping and will provide the final striping after the final paving is done next year. This will allow the pavement to settle through the winter and spring prior to final topping of the road.

MnDOT thanks the community and motorists for their patience in completing this reconstruction and working with the challenges of rainy weather during the summer.

Crews started reconstructing 1.2 miles of Highway 56 through LeRoy in April. Improvements include the following:

  • Reconfigured Mower County Road 12, Highway 56 and Main Street East intersection to improve safety by reducing vehicle speeds while maintaining efficient traffic flow.
  • Constructed a cul-de-sac west of Mower County Road 12.
  • Created a buffer zone between traffic and parking from Mather Street to Everett Street for biking.
  • Improved school crosswalk safety by constructing a bump out at Mower County Road 14 and creating a wider school parking zone.
  • Replaced aging storm water, sanitary sewer and water main utilities underneath Highway 56.
  • Extended water main past Ada Street.
  • Replaced curb and gutter.
  • Replaced sidewalks.
