Austin Area Arts announces slate of spring art classes

Austin Area Arts has announced its slate of Spring 2025 art classes. 

A variety of  new and returning adult classes are on the roster including wheel throwing bootcamp, relaxing watercolors, polymer clay earrings, and a folky chicken painting class. In addition, open studio sessions are offered weekly on Wednesdays for adults. Kids Studio sessions are offered  weekly on Saturday mornings while Creators Club sessions for teenagers are offered the first Thursday of each month starting Feb 6. 

Private art lessons are also available.

Find all  the details at: www.austinareaarts.org or call 507-434-0934 during normal business hours, Tuesday through Friday. All classes occur at the Austin ArtWorks Center, 300 N. Main Street, Austin. Adult classes are detailed below: 

Wheel Throwing Bootcamp with Spencer Johannes 

Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. to noon 

This crash course is designed to teach the core foundational skills of the pottery wheel.  Appropriate for all skill levels, this class will allow you both the time and instruction to  learn and improve upon your wheel throwing skills. (This class will be repeated on Feb.  8 at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and  Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. to noon) 

Fused Glass Studio with Deb D’Souza 

Feb. 11 at 1- 3 p.m. 

Come spend an afternoon experimenting with fused glass. We supply everything you will  need for cutting, shaping and assembling 4”x4” fused glass works. 

Gouache Painting with Rhonda Baldner 

Tuesdays and Thursdays Feb. 18 – 27 at 4:30-6 p.m. 

Gouache is a water-based paint that is similar to watercolor and acrylic paint, but is more  opaque. Students will start out learning techniques of what gouache painting is like. From  there, students will practice painting images and experimenting on their own. 

Relaxing Watercolors with Amy Krause 

Sat. March 1 at 3-4:30 p.m. 

Join artist Amy Krause of A. Krause Studio, for a relaxing afternoon exploring  watercolor painting techniques. This class will focus on using art as a self-care centered  mindfulness practice.

Intermediate Ceramics with Rhonda Baldner 

March 4, 5, and 6 at 4:30-6 p.m. 

This class will offer another step of learning using 3/d form, from hand building techniques of clay to wheel throwing. Gathering ideas from previous learning and  creating a vast amount of amazing art pieces 

Fused Glass Studio with Deb D’Souza 

March 25 at 1-3 p.m. 

Come spend an afternoon experimenting with fused glass. All supplies are provided for  cutting, shaping and assembling 4”x4” fused glass works. 

Hammered Flower Printing with Kea Maxwell 

March 22 at 2 p.m. 

Participants will receive an organic tote bag, complete with side and bottom gussets, to  create their own hammered print designs using natural ink. By hammering flowers and  leaves, the natural pigment is released into the fabric creating a beautiful design. 

Polymer Clay Earrings with Madeline Allen 

April 5 at  4-7 p.m. 

Learn the basics to make polymer clay jewelry! Learn all the steps that go into making a  pair of polymer clay earrings, including: how to mix your own clay colors, the clay  conditioning process, how to cut and cure pieces, and how to finish and assemble it all  into a unique piece of wearable art! 

Folky Chicken Paint + Sip with Willow Gentile 

April 11 at  6-8 p.m. 

A funky take on Folk Art! Layer patterns to create an adorable, vibrant folky chicken.  This class will use acrylic paint on 12” x 16” canvas. 

Wheel Throwing Bootcamp with Spencer Johannes 

Apr 12 at 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and April 19 at 10 a.m. to noon
