Rosa Rodriguez has spent a lot of time working on her own wellbeing; making sure along the way that she had a balanced state of mind.
Now, she is hoping to help others along that same path.
On Saturday, Jan. 4, Rodriguez opened a brick and mortar location for her business, Bruja Bonita Holistic Health & Wellness Alternatives located at 401 North Main Street room 204.
The small, two-room business offers a cozy, intimate respite for those looking to improve all facets of their health.
“I primarily started for myself more than anything,” Rodriguez said of her journey, which started three years ago. “I saw that it worked for me. They’re people that have tried everything and they have not yet tried holistic medicine. I’m able to offer that. Let’s find your way to benefit you and find out how you can heal.”
Bruja Bonita offers a variety of holistic avenues that can guide people through their own journey including reiki energy healing, sound baths, holistic products available for purchase and ayurveda wellness coaching.
“It focuses on your body as a whole,” Rodriguez explained of ayurveda. “That’s mentally, spiritually, physically and how everything goes together. Flows together. If one part of you isn’t feeling very well you kind of have to adjust your rhythm to get that balance.”
Rodriguez started her bid to help others by oftentimes going into people’s homes or holding events for sound baths in neutral locations including the Spiritual Center at Austin Congregational Church.
Those early offerings routinely centered around family and friends, but soon expanded outside of that circle. At the time she was doing reiki appointments at Daisy Blue in Austin, where she was offered the chance to take it over, but felt the timing was wrong for such a leap.
“I just didn’t feel like that was the right thing for me,” Rodriguez said. “The right fit for me. I decided I was going to part ways and do my own thing.”
As time progressed, Rodriguez began looking for places to set up shop and begin to offer more to the public. She had looked at several places, including a spot in the building she is currently located, but nothing at the time felt right.
It wasn’t until this spot opened up that Rodriguez felt the timing was right.
Having now found a place that worked for her, Rodriguez said that the advantages of being in one spot have opened up the world for what she wants for other’s wellbeing.
“It’s so much easier,” she said. “I don’t have to move around so much, people can come in and meet me on their time.”
Having those options is important for Rodriguez because she feels that holistic healing has opportunities available that maybe some haven’t thought about before just based on her own journey.
“It’s been great and I have felt like I’ve changed so much. Not only physically,” Rodriguez said.
She further added that the process takes time and that those wanting to try those things that she offers should be prepared to work on it daily. It’s a daily practice to find the balance that some might be missing in their lives.
“That’s the beauty of what I do because you have to practice it and incorporate it into daily life,” she continued. “For myself, instead of getting into my head so much, I have tools to work with now.”
She also invites people to put away expectations when they come and visit her.
“When I invite people to come see me for sessions or they are asking me questions about it, I always say don’t come in with expectations,” Rodriguez said. “Peal away all the expectations and you’re going to get better results.”
“Everybody is different,” she added. “Be patient in the process and themselves.”
Ultimately, Rodriguez said she hopes sometime down the road that there will be opportunities to expand the dream, but in the meantime she will be doing what she can for clients in her new location.
She also urges people to ask questions.
“I just want to basically let people know that I’m here,” Rodriguez said. “I know it intimates a lot of people when they don’t know about certain things, which is fair. It’s intimidating for myself just going into it and learning.”
