Law enforcement, including the Austin/Mower Special Incident Response Team (SIRT), responded to Runnings early Monday morning to investigate what has turned out to be a burglary of the premises.

According to a release from the Austin Police Department’s Chief David McKichan, a review of footage from Runnings determined that there had been a burglary, but that the suspects had left prior to establishing the perimeter.

In an earlier release McKichan stated that APD responded to an alarm at around 6 a.m. Monday and said in the release that it was determined not to be due to employee activity, but rather may have been a break in.

According to that release as well as SIRT Commander Dustin Hicks at the scene, a parameter was then established and that SIRT was called in to help clear the building, “out of an abundance of caution,” Hicks said.

He further stated there was no threat to the public and no injuries, but could not elaborate further at the time as to the cause of the alarm.

Law enforcement cleared the scene and theft the area a little after 9 a.m.

As the investigation continues, McKichan said that anybody with information regarding the burglary are encouraged to contact the Austin Police Department at 1-507-437-9400.
