William Stebbins, 82

William Stebbins, 82, of Blooming Prairie, died Feb. 8, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester.

He was born June 14, 1920, to Steven and Inez (Brown) Stebbins in Magnolia, Iowa, where he grew up. At age 17, he moved to the Blooming Prairie area where he worked for various farmers.

He married Albina Wurst on Jan. 23, 1941, in Northwood, Iowa. They later bought their own farm. William retired in 1988 and moved into Blooming Prairie.

A member of United Methodist Church of Owatonna, he was also a former member of Blooming Prairie Lions Club, Creamery Board and elevator board. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Albina Stebbins, Blooming Prairie; daughter, Joanne Stebbins, Lanesboro; son, Larry (Ellen) Stebbins, Blooming Prairie; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Navarrette, Omaha, Neb.; half sisters, Betty (Jack) Thomas, Florida; Cathy (Rick) Gercia, California; Virginia (Bruce) Hartwig, Missouri; Elaine (Vince) Lazo, California; half brothers, Vinnie Lankford, Missouri; Richard (Joanne) Stebbins, Missouri; Albert (Ann) Stebbins, Missouri; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 2 p.m., Wednesday at United Methodist Church of Owatonna, 815 University St. East with the Rev. Gary Lueck officiating.

Owatonna Memorial Gardens.

William Brick, 76

Bill Brick, 76, of Owatonna, died Feb. 7, 2003, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, from complications from surgery of an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

He was born Dec. 10, 1926, in Owatonna, to Frederick M. and Catherine (Nolan) Brick.

He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1944 and enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a Seaman 2nd class from 1944 to 1946. He went to Mortuary Science School in St. Louis, Mo. and, early in his career, was a mortician in Duluth.

On June 11, 1960, he married Jeanne Hayes at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester.

In 1954, Bill and his brother, Don, took over the Brick Funeral Home and Furniture Store following the death of their father. In 1970, Don moved to Austin and Bill became the sole proprietor of both businesses. He retired from the funeral business in 1988 and from the furniture store in 1992.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Elks, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and V.F.W. Senior Place. His hobbies included fishing, spending time on the computer, Thursday poker club at senior place, visiting, and traveling to Mexico, Oregon, and Laughlin, Nev.

Survivors include wife, Jeanne; daughter, Kathleen Brick, Owatonna; son, Fred Brick, Coos Bay, Ore.; one granddaughter; brother, Don (Arlene) Brick, Austin

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 10, 2003, with a 7:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:15 at the funeral home.

Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 512 South Elm, Owatonna, with the Rev. Edward Mountain officiating.

Interment: Sacred Heart Cemetery, Owatonna.

Harold C. Hoyum, 85

Harold C. Hoyum, 85, of Austin, formerly of rural Viroqua, Wis., died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the Comfort Care Good Samaritan Center, Austin.

He was born in Sterling Township, Vernon County, Wis., on Oct. 24, 1917, to Thrond and Maria (Forde) Hoyum.

He married Jean Vance on Sept. 25, 1940. They farmed on Dach Ridge near Viroqua, Wis. for many years. Jean preceded him in death on May 8, 1992.

In October 1996, Harold married Margaret Campbell. They made their home in Austin

He was a loving husband who loved to travel and dance.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Austin; daughter, Joyce (Alan) Solverson of Viroqua, Wis.; sons, Terry (Lori) Hoyum of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Robert (Barbara) Hoyum and Gary (Sharon) Hoyum, both of Viroqua, Wis.; step-daughters, Gail (Steve) Herschman of Gibbon, Cheryl (Allen) Robinson of Pine City, and Diane Tomkins of South St. Paul; grandchildren, Denise (Douglas) Bolstad of Viroqua, Wis., Chris (Charmin) Solverson of Stoughton, Wis., Sherri (Steven) Johnson of Chandler, Ariz., Craig Solverson of Viroqua, Wis., Jennifer Hoyum and fiance Jammie Miller of Viroqua, Wis., Lisa (Dave) Kowalczyk of Milwaukee and Chad (Kari) Hoyum of Viroqua, Wis.; great-grandchildren, Kristen and Trevor Bolstad, Rourie and Neo Solverson; step-grandchildren, Cassie and Zachary Herschman of Gibbon, Chris (Rhea) Haffner of St. Paul Park, Tom Haffner of Shoreview, and Kevin Tomkins of South St. Paul; step-great-grandchildren, Alex and Emily Haffner; brothers, Fredrick (Carol) Hoyum of Westby, Wis., Norman (Lillian) Hoyum of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Edwin (Iva) Hoyum of Rockford, Ill.; sisters, Mabel Oliver of Stoddard, Wis. and Helen Emerson of Sun City, Ariz.; brothers-in-law, Carl Oliver and Noel Nelson both of Viroqua, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Janette Vance of West Salem, Wis., and Leola Vance of Modesto, Calif.

In addition to his first wife, Harold was preceded in death by daughter, Cheryl Hoyum; granddaughter, Deanne Solverson; sisters, Gertrude Oliver and Evelyn Nelson; brothers-in-law, Virgil Vance, Kenneth Vance, Vernon Vance and Arnold Emerson; sister-in-law, Mearl Vance; and step son-in-law, William Tomkins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the Viroqua Church of Christ. Pastor Ron Ahlgren will officiate with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call at the Larson Funeral Home in Viroqua on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday after 1 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Viroqua Church of Christ, Austin Medical Center Hospice or the Gundersen Lutheran Cancer Center in LaCrosse.
