Postponement only prolonged Plainview's wait to take care of Southland in a Three Rivers Conference boys' basketball game Thursday night. The host Gophers got to the free-throw line 25 times in a 78-65 victory over the Rebels.
Southland's two-man show of Tim Schneider and Greg Retterath could not keep up with Plainview's scoring trio. Schneider scored 21 points and Retterath poured in 23, but Michael Kasten led three Plainview players with 17 or more.
Kasten finished with 23, Clayton Kolb added 19 and Jason McHone finished with 17 for the Gophers, who moved to 13-7 overall.
"They were a tough team to defend," said Southland coach Greg Storey. "We played around three different defenses and we couldn't really get stops with any of them."
Plainview was 20-of-25 from the free-throw line, including 13-of-14 in the fourth quarter of Thursday's TRC win.
Retterath rattled home five of Southland's seven three-pointers.
Southland (10-9, 8-6) plays at Lyle/Pacelli Saturday night at Pacelli High School in Austin -- a non-conference game rescheduled from Monday.
