Austin graduates making marks across the Midwest

A trio of Austin High School graduates and former Austin Youth Hockey Association skaters are members of hockey teams in the United States Hockey League.

Mike Neilon is second on the Des Moines Buccaneers and tied for 19th in scoring with 21 points, on 10 goals and 11 assists, through 25 games. The Buccaneers are fourth in the USHL's East Division with a 10-14-2 record. Neilon's two short-handed goals have him tied atop the league standings in the category.

Josh Hansen is tied for third on the Green Bay Gamblers with 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 25 games. The Gamblers are fifth in the East Division with an 8-14-3 record.

Brent Cummings has no goals and three assists in 25 games with the Topeka Scarecrows, who are fifth of six in the West Division with a 13-9-3 record.

Other former Austin High hockey players still in the minor ranks include Bryan Cummings, who has two goals and two assists in 14 games at the University of Wisconsin at Stout.

Andy Klapperick has one goal and one assist in 11 games with Wisconsin - Eau Claire. David Lorenzen had five goals and five assists in 19 games with the Great Falls Americans of the America West Hockey League.
