Dorothy Marie DeBoer, 73
Dorothy Marie DeBoer, age 73, of Lyle, Minnesota died Wednesday morning, December 4, 2002 at her home. She was born November 29, 1929 in Claremont, Minnesota to Clifford and Esther (Thompson) Higgins. She attended school in Elkton and married Kenneth DeBoer on August 9, 1948 in Spring Valley. Dorothy was president of AAL Branch #5583 and a member of Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church where she belonged to Naomi Circle. She served on the Lyle School Board for twenty years and had been a Lyle City Council member for the past five years and treasurer of the Lyle EDA. Dorothy was a waitress at the Diamond Lunch Caf and Copper Kettle Caf and worked at the Lyle Liquor Store. She started working for the Post Office as a Post Office rural route carrier in 1968, transferred to the Rochester Mail Station, sorting mail and in 1980 became Postmaster in Lyle, retiring in 1996 after 30 years of service. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family, many friends and the community of Lyle.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl (Ed) Cimino of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sons, Wayne DeBoer and Dwight (Diana) DeBoer both of Lyle; grandchildren, Kris and Ryan Ekle, Dean DeBoer, Weston and Tyler DeBoer; sisters, Katie (Marvin) Pater of Lansing; Ethel Zalky of Ostrander; Nancy Durst of Rochester; Suzie (Terry) Donovan of Plymouth; brothers, Clifford (Becky) Higgins of Aitkin; Richard (Mary) Higgins of Bettendorf, Iowa; Jerry (Sandy) Higgins of Moline, Illinois; many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and two brothers. Casket bearers are Steve Johnson, Kris Ekle, Ryan Ekle, Dean DeBoer, Denny Whalen and Jeff Meyer. Honorary Casket bears are Weston and Tyler DeBoer.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 7, 2002 at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church, rural Lyle with The Reverend Lydia Mittag officiating. Interment is at the church cemetery. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday and at the church one hour before the service at church. Worlein Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the church.
Angela A. Pappas, 78
Angela A. Pappas, 78 of Austin, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1924 in Austin to William and Marie (Skinner) Pappas. Angela graduated from Austin High School. She worked for the Hormel Foods Corporation for 43 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Survivors include: Sisters, Rose Pappas, Elaine Pappas, Marea Pappas, all of Austin, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Donald James.
Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church with the Rev. James Young officiating.

Leland O. M. Falch, 81
Leland Ordean Melbourn Falch, 81 of Austin died at Austin Medical Center Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002.
He was born April 4, 1921 in Vernon Township, Dodge County to Dilert Emil and Clara Margaret (Evenson) Falch. He was baptized and confirmed at West St. Olaf Church and attended Inverness country school near his home. After employment with Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, California he married Bernice C. Nereson on Feb. 28, 1943 at East St. Olaf Lutheran Church at Rock Dell. They lived and farmed near Oslo until 1945 when they moved to Austin. Leland worked at Hormel Foods until his retirement on June 25, 1982. Bernice died on Jan. 1, 1986. He continued to live in Austin and later with Gladys Wilson in rural Oslo until two years ago when he moved in with daughter, Renaye. Leland enjoyed coin collecting and playing the harmonica, attending garage sales, auctions, listening to radio church services as well as the Gophers and Vikings broadcasts.
Survivors include daughters, Julie (Donald) Peterson of Blooming Prairie, Renaye Palmersheim of Austin, son, Terry (Maria) Falch of Austin; eight grandchildren; five step grandsons; eight great grandchildren; ten step great grandchildren; two step great, great grandchildren; brother, Stanley (Marian) Falch of Brownsdale; sisters, Elina (Rudy) Senjem of Hayfield, Delia Apold of Austin and Frances Gasman of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and sister, Laila Halverson.
Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at the funeral home and at the church one hour before the service.
Service: 1 p.m., Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ron Barnett officiating
