Alumni Update: Brehmer and Heimark swim well at conference meets

SWIMMING

Austin grad Nick Brehmer was a member of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 400-freestyle relay team that took second at the WIAC championship meet with a time of 3:06. Brehmer took seventh in the 100-freestyle with a time of 47.62 seconds at the WIAC meet.

Austin grad Helen Heimark finished 18th in the 100-freestyle with a season-best time of 54.83 seconds in the BIG EAST Championships for Butler University. Heimark also helped break a Butler school record in the 400-freestyle relay team as she was part of a group that took sixth and swam the race in 3:35.93. Heimark’s split was 54.57 seconds in the race.

BASKETBALL

Austin grad Joe Aase is a member of the Davidson College team that will play in the NIT this season.

Aase has played in 24 games for the Wildcats (20-12 overall) and he’s averaging .8 points and 1 rebound per game, while shooting 33 percent on 3-pointers.

Hayfield grad Tanner Kramer recently finished his men’s basketball career at Wartburg College.

Kramer played in 21 games this season and averaged nine minutes per contest. He averaged 2.3 points per game and shot 37 percent on 3-pointers for the Knights (13-13 overall).

Hayfield grad Brady Kramer, Tanner’s cousin, recently finished up his freshman season at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Kramer played in eight games this season as he logged in nine minutes without attempting a shot for the Pioneers (16-11 overall).

Austin grad Babaye Oja recently wrapped up her two-year career at Iowa Central Community College. Oja averaged 10.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals at ICC (26-6 overall) and she shot 33 percent on 3-pointers.

Southland grad Haley Kirkpatrick recently wrapped up her first season at Luther College.

Kirkpatrick averaged 5.1 points and 4.5 rebounds, while shooting 30 percent on 3-pointers for the Norse (11-14 overall).

Grand Meadow grad Jessica Benson was named to the All-NISC Second Team at St. Cloud State University (16-11 overall) this season. Benson, a senior, averaged 15.6 points and 10.4 rebounds per game and she finishes her career 22nd on the scoring list at SCSCU with 1,1650 career points. Benson also tallied 678 rebounds, 150 steals and 142 assists in her career.

BASEBALL

Austin grad Gabe Kasak has recorded his first college hit at the University of Sioux Falls.

Kasak has gone 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run in an early trip to Colorado for the Cougars (3-4 overall).

Hayfield and Riverland grad Tyler Krekling has started his first four games at Concordia-St. Paul (4-0 overall). Krekling is hitting .385 with six runs and an RBI with an on-base percentage of .529. He is two-for-two on steals.

Hayfield grad Tyler Nelson has started three games for Bemidji State this season. Nelson, who is a junior, is hitting .231 with an RBI and four runs for the Beavers (3-1 overall).

SOFTBALL

Austin grad Molly Maschka has played in three games for Waldorf College (12-0 overall) this season. Maschka, who is a junior at Waldorf, is 2-for-7 with an RBI and three runs.

Blooming Prairie grad Erica Manske has started two games in the circle for Luther College (6-0 overall) this season. Manske is 2-0 with an ERA of 2.74 and she’s struck out five, while allowing nine hits and nine walks.

Manske’s former teammate Shelbi Swenson recently made her debut for Bethel University as she has played in two games. Swenson, a freshman at Bethel, hasn’t pitched yet, but she is 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs for the Royals (1-1 overall).

After transferring from the University of North Dakota to St. Cloud State University last season, Blooming Prairie grad Tricia DeBoer is making an early mark with the Huskies (2-2 overall). DeBoer has started all four games and she’s 5-for-13 at the plate with a run.
