Art Center plans classes for all ages

Springtime means art time at the Austin Area Arts Center.

The AAAC will hold two art classes in April, with an egg-painting class for children on April 7 and a pen and ink technique class on April 21.

Parents and children will work together to make jewel-like eggs in the Ukrainian Eggs for Families class. The class goes from 1 to 5 p.m. April 7. The class will cost $56 for non-members and $48 for members. This fee covers one child and one adult.

To register, contact the Austin Area Art Center during regular business hours, Wednesday through Sunday noon-4 p.m. at 507-433-8451 or email them at aaacoil@smig.net. All materials will be provided at egg painting class class, so it is required to pre-pay and pre-register.

Artists interested in buildings may enjoy the Pen and Ink Architecture class April 21. Students will get an overview of how to project buildings using one- and two-point perspective as well as a variety of pen and ink techniques including hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, solid shading and use of negative space to draw their favorite buildings.

The class is for ages 16 and up, and will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21. Fees are $40 for non-members and $35 for members. Register in person or by phone at 507-433-8451. All who wish to take this class must pre-pay and pre-register to assist the instructor in his class preparation.

What to bring: Heavy illustration paper, ruler, any kind of permanent black marker, both wide tip and fine point. The artist likes sharpies, or for the more daring, a crow-quill dip pen and a bottle of India ink. Also bring along a picture of your house, barn, church or other favorite building to use as a reference.
