Blue Sox top Faribault Lakers

The Austin Blue Sox received a boost from a couple of Austin High School grads as they beat the Faribault Lakers 7-3 in Marcusen Park Wednesday.

Marcus Stoulil doubled in two runs to put the Blue Sox (6-7 overall) up 4-3 in the fourth inning and Quinn Yocom beat out an infield single to knock in a run and put Austin up 6-3 in the seventh inning.

Yocom said the Blue Sox’s young roster has helped the team compete on a nightly basis this summer.

“It’s kind of nice, because if we had some older guys it seems like they wouldn’t be able to go every game,” Yocom said. “Us younger guys are able to go every game and it seems like we’ve got a little more energy.”

Riverland grad Cody Schact gave the Blue Devils a solid effort in relief as he struck out six in three innings. The Lakers had runners on second and third with no outs in the eighth when Schact struck out three straight hitters to avoid a jam.

“Cody Schact came in and really kept us in the game,” Blue Sox manager Josh Kunze said. “He sawed them down pretty good and we’re excited to see that. He had different body language tonight and that was good to see.”

The Blue Sox will have the next six days off, but it has some big games coming up this month.

“League play is right around the corner, so it would be nice if we start peaking at the right time,” Kunze said.
