Packer swimmers break school record at state preliminaries
The Packers had a strong day at the Class ‘A’ state swimming preliminaries in the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis Friday.
The Packers broke one school record, they advanced to the finals in four events and advanced to the consolation finals in four events.
Austin’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Craig Heimark, Seth Clasen, Sawyer Myers and Ian Christopherson took fourth in the prelims and their time of 1:29.19 broke an AHS record that was set last year at the state meet.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Heimark, Christopherson, Myers and Ian Christopherson made it to the finals by taking eighth, Ian Christopherson made it to the 50-yard freestyle finals by taking fifth and Heimark will swim in the 100-yard freestyle finals after he took seventh.
Heimark will swim in the 200-yard freestyle consolation finals, Myers advanced to the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard consolation finals and Ben Walker advanced to the 100-yard butterfly consolation finals.
Austin diver Alec Anderson is also in the finals, which will begin Saturday at noon at the U of M Aquatic Center.
