Track and field: Austin’s Overby and Snater breaks their own school records

The Austin boys and girls track and field teams each took fourth out of 10 teams at the ‘true team’ Section 1AA meet in Red Wing Tuesday.

For the girls, Austin eighth grader Madsion Overby had a strong showing as she broke her own school record in the 3200-meter run. Overby cut 16 seconds off her previous record time to take second with a time of 11:28.

“She made a big drop to get to the first record and she did really well tonight,” Austin head coach Nancy Jones said. “She told me this was the first time that she was really happy with how she ran this season.”

Austin junior Abby Snater also re-set her school record in the pole vault as she hit a height of 11 feet, six inches, which is one-inch higher than the new record she put up earlier this season.

Austin freshman Carolyn Hackel took first in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 12.83 seconds and she took second in the 200-meter dash and long jump, where she hit a personal best distance of 16-1.

For the boys, Omot Okello took first in the 300-meter hurdles and second in the 110-meter hurdles, Nate Schwab took second in the 800-meter run and third in the 1600-meter run.

Mason Wollerscheim took 25 seconds off his career best time to take third in the 3200-meter run.

“The boys easly put forward there best effort of the season and it is nice to see that all of the hard wrk these young gentelmen put in everyday is starting to pay off,” Austin head coach Tony Einertson said.
