Yoga studio to host Vision 2020 fundraiser

Lindsey Kepper thinks it’s time to get healthy and make a difference in the community.

The Yoga Studio of Austin owner is offering Yoga Mala — a yoga class dedicated to the 108 sun salutations, or a specific series of poses — from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday. The yoga mala will take donations to give to Vision 2020, to help build a stage for Austin’s downtown plaza.

“I felt we needed to give back to the community,” Kepper said last week.

Volunteer workers from Riverland Community College’s carpentry department are set to begin construction on the 27-by-22-foot stage as early as next month, though Vision 2020 organizers say it will cost about $35,000 to put the stage into the existing half-circle wall at the plaza.

The stage is part of Vision 2020’s Downtown Austin committee, as organizers look to brighten the downtown area through a variety of means to attract more people. The stage could be used for musical performances during the downtown Tuesdays on Main events this summer, in addition to other types of shows.

To that effort, Kepper and the yoga studio are asking for $25 per person to participate in the mala, and all proceeds will go to Vision 2020. For more information, call 507-440-1073 or go to www.yogastudioofaustin.com.
