Packer girls open season

The Austin girls track and field team opened its season with a second-place finish at the four-team Faribault invite Thursday.

Kendall Hackensmith took first in the 300-meter hurdles for Austin, Carolyn Hackel took first in the 200-meter dash, Karyn Potach took first in the 400-meter dash, Madison Overby took first in the 3200-meter run and Rachel Quandt took first in the high jump.

“We had some great performances tonight given the fact we have only had one full practice at the track which has made it difficult for our field event athletes to get technique practice accomplished,” Austin head coach Nancy Jones said.

The Packer 4 x 800-meter relay team of Haley Splinter, Merideth Fritz, Potach and Overby took first, the 4 x 200-meter relay team of Quandt, Splinter, Maddie Kinney and Hackel took first and the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Splinter, Fritz, Paige Raymond and Potach took first.

The Packers totaled 96 points. Faribault won the meet with a score of 109.
