ADAMS — One day after their worst scoring output of the season, the Awesome Blossoms boys basketball team put up their highest season total in a 77-36 win over LeRoy-Ostrander in the consolation round of the Rebel Classic in Adams Friday.

While L-O’s Tom Mackey gave the Cardinals (0-4 overall) a brief lead when he hit a three to make it 3-2 in the first minute, it was all BP from that point on as Michael Thomas, who finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals, threw down to breakaway jams during a 30-5 BP run over the next eight minutes.

BP freshman center John Rumpza bounced back from his lowest scoring game of the season in Thursday’s loss to Cotter as he finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and two steals in the win on Friday.

“It was kind of a frustrating game last night and our offense didn’t really get going,” Rumpza said. “It was really nice to get out in transition and score some points tonight.”

Plenty of players got in on the scoring action for the Blossoms (4-2 overall) as all 14 players had at least two points in the win.

“We just wanted to play our way and get good, quality possessions,” BP head coach John Bruns said. “We did that from the top guy to the 14th guy and that was very good to see. We got to get some guys who haven’t had a lot of varsity time in there and they did a great job.”

While the Cards couldn’t match BP’s athleticism, they battled them through the night, despite having three players with nagging injuries.

“I like that we matched up physically with these better teams (in the tournament),” L-O head coach Jason Jude said. “It was more like a football game than a basketball game at times. I think this will help us.”

Mitch Scaglione led L-O with 11 points.

BP continued to get strong play inside from senior Alex Fiebiger, who had 10 points and six rebounds. Rumpza said that Fiebiger’s presence is appreciated inside.

“He’s a great rebounder and he’s really physical. He’s coming along great,” Rumpza said.
