Best Bets: Here come the carbohydrates

Forget that the holiday season is well past. Put the New Year’s resolutions on hold, for many carbohydrates await you. A week of good eating lies ahead.

Chicken ‘n’ dumplings

Stretch the gut out first with an all-you-can-eat dinner. The Mower County Senior Center, 400 Third Ave. NE, is hosting a chicken dumpling soup and chili dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $6 in advance, $7 at the door. Children 5 and younger are free.

They’ve gone country

The Northwestern Singers on Saturday will only be feeding your ears with the sweet sounds of country. The annual winter concert “Hooked on Country,” will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for students and $3 more at the door.

Talkin’ about turkeys

More food: The Cedar River Longbeards chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is holding its 16th annual banquet Saturday at the Holiday Inn in Austin, 1701 Fourth St. NW. But tickets are limited, so contact DBergemann@farmers

national.com, 507-434-7985, for tickets, which are $50 per person, $75 for couple or $300 for a sponsorship ticket (includes $200 in raffle tickets). Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and dinner starts at 7.

Prepping for cold feet

Here comes the bridal showcase. The Hormel Historic Home is at it again with a wedding showcase from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, 208 Fourth Ave. NW. For those who are giddy about getting married, tickets are $3.

The king of all brunches

And then there were carbs. Top it all off Thursday with more orange juice and syrup starting 7 a.m. Thursday. The Lions Club is holding its 54th annual Pancake Day until 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 204 First Ave. NW. Tickets are $5 in advance from a Lions member, $6 at the door, and 6 and younger get in free.
