Property owner shuts down Jerry’s
Jerry’s Other Place is closed indefinitely as of Wednesday night.
Property owner Jerry Kellogg shut down the business located at 1207 N Main St.
“We just went in and shut the place down,” said Cindy Powell, Kellogg’s daughter. “We don’t know what’s going to take place at the moment.”
Police were called to the restaurant Wednesday evening for a dispute between the business owner and property owner. Powell confirmed they called police during the altercation, but said that nothing got physical.
“It did get a little heated, but no punches were exchanged or anything like that,” Powell said.
A Security Lock & Key van was sitting in front of the building Thursday morning, and the lock had been removed from the front door. Kellogg said he was advised by a bankruptcy trustee to lock the door, and on Wednesday evening, he went to the restaurant to do so. He said they allowed customers in the restaurant to finish eating, but stopped anyone trying to come in and informed them that it would be closing.
Business owner Scott Johnson said on Nov. 3 that the business would be closing by the end of the year, but declined to comment why. According to the Mower County Treasurer’s office, Jerry’s owed $14,449 in delinquent property taxes as of last week.
Johnson said last week that the restaurant has about 22 employees.
Johnson’s wife, Julie Johnson, plans to open a restaurant at the former site of Tolly’s Time Out, Scott told the Herald last week. The restaurant will be named Home Plate.
Kellogg said he hopes to sell the property.
“People have inquired,” he said. “It will be for sale and it will open again hopefully.”
Police Chief Brian Krueger said he had no further information.
Calls to Jerry’s Other Place Thursday morning were not answered.
