An Austin man was arrested Sunday morning after he allegedly slammed his vehicle into an apartment complex and fled the scene while he was drunk.

Police arrested Benjamin Williams, 32, at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday shortly after he fled the accident at the 600 block of 14th Street NW. According to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi, the Austin Fire Department responded to the scene and evacuated the residents as the car took out a gas line. Nobody, including the driver, was injured. Amazi said the car caused significant damage to the building.

Williams is pending formal charges in Mower County Court for DWI and fleeing the scene of an accident.
