Fire completely engulfs semi cab on I-90

A semi cab was destroyed after it was engulfed in flames Monday morning on Interstate 90 near Dexter.

According to the Mower County Sheriff’s report, deputies, Dexter Fire Department and a Grand Meadow police officer went to the 189 mile marker at about 3:40 a.m. where the truck was already ablaze. The driver was not present at the time.

The driver, Gavin Arnold Keim, 30, of Grand Meadow, returned awhile later and said he had just had mechanical problems, so he went to get another semi to pull the trailer. He had also called a wrecker to haul the cab. When he returned, however, the cab was a total loss. The report did not list a damage estimate, but the truck was insured.

Westbound Interstate 90 was closed for about 20 minutes that morning while firefighters battled the blaze.
