Flooring co. expanding at cheese factory
After many years of being unused, the old Aegean Cheese Factory is undergoing changes.
Gene Slowinski, owner of Slowinski Flooring, is remodeling and adding on to the old Aegean Cheese Factory at 2606 Oakland Ave. W. Slowinski will move his flooring business into the factory; however, he’s not sure when that will happen. In addition, Shell Oil Company will rent part of the building as a distribution office.
“I work on it whenever I have some extra time on my hands,” Slowinski said.
The new building will be used as the business’s new showroom and warehouse. This will allow Slowinski flooring to carry more inventory and have a better display, according to Slowinski.
“It’s more of a challenge,” Slowinski said. “We’re just trying to make good use out of this building.”
Slowinski’s father, Anthony, started Slowinski Flooring in the 1950s as an installations business. For the past 15 years, Slowinski has included sales as well.
“It’s a new way to grow the flooring business,” Slowinski said.
Slowinski is moving his entire operation from 1206 Fourth Ave. SW to the new location. Jeffrey Geygen is listed as the owner of the property, according to the Mower County Auditor/Treasurer’s Office.
