The Hormel Historic Home’s autism programming is celebrating five years this summer.

Circle of Friends Day Camp, for youth in first through fifth grades who are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, is holding its fifth annual camp session Monday through Friday.

Programming began in 2009 and an average of 22 kids have attended the weeklong camp each year. Staff includes special education professionals who are trained in working with young people. The camp helps participants build social and life skills that will help them academically and personally.

Funding for the programming comes from the Hormel Foundation, the United Way of Mower County, camper tuition and private donations.

To mark the five-year anniversary, campers will celebrate with cake and hot dogs on Friday.

The autism programming for youth in sixth through 12th grades is celebrating its fourth year of camp.
