Council moves closer to finalizing road work dates

The city council moved road construction projects closer to starting dates at the Jan. 4 meeting.

All road projects listed below were passed unanimously and will have a hearing at the Feb. 16 meeting.

 Main Street and Third Avenue Southwest

Third Avenue Southwest from Main Street to Fourth Street and Main Street from First Avenue to Third Avenue

Work: widen roadway by four feet, replace with concrete pavement, new curb and gutter, parking will be allowed on both sides of Main Street between First and Second Avenue but only on the east side between Second and Third Avenue, upgrade storm sewer, upgrade deficient sidewalk and provide pedestrian ramps, replace entire length of water main, spot repairs to gas main, repair underground electric vaults.

Estimated Costs: $925,000.

Third Street Northwest, Sixth Place Northwest and Seventh Place Northwest

(Third Street from Third Street from Fourth avenue to Eighth Place; Sixth Place from First Drive to Fourth Street, and Seventh Place Northwest from First Drive to Fourth Street)

Work: replace existing roadway with asphalt, upgrade storm sewer, inspect and repair sanitary sewer, provide pedestrian ramps, replace water main on interior blocks of the project,

Cost: $725,000.

Woodson Kindergarten Center area in southeast

This is a two-year project, 2016 construction will be from Sixth Street Southeast to 16th Avenue to dead end, 16th Avenue Southeast from Sixth Street to Eighth Drive.

Work: replace roadway and repair deficient curb and gutter, upgrade storm sewer, inspect and repair sanitary sewer, provide pedestrian ramps and upgrade deficient sidewalk, replace entire water main and provide more underground electric crossings,

Cost: $550,000.

 South Crane Addition Phase II in northeast

14th Avenue Northeast from Eighth Street to the dead end; 13th Avenue Northeast from Eighth Street to the turnback; 11th Avenue Northeast from Eighth Street to 10th Street; Ninth Street Northeast from 10th Avenue to 12th Avenue.

Work: replacing roadway, curb and gutter, upgrade storm sewer and repair or replace existing default structures, install sanitary sewer on 11th Avenue Northeast to service a property without direct access to a main, inspect sanitary sewer, provide pedestrian ramps and upgrade deficient sidewalk, replace entire water main and move overhead power lines to underground.

Cost: $550,000.

Fourth Drive Southwest from the Turtle Creek bridge to 24th Avenue

Work: reconstruction of rural street section to urban street section, installation of curb and gutter, replace pavement with asphalt pavement, construct a 10-foot wide trail on the west side of Fourth Drive, install street lighting, remove drainage ditches and install storm sewer to properly drain roadway and boulevards, inspect and extend sanitary sewer, provide pedestrian ramps and upgrade existing deficient sidewalk, electric department will provide future underground electric crossings.

Cost: $1.375 million.

 Alley from Third Avenue Northwest to South to dead end

Work: Replace existing concrete pavement with new concrete pavement that also includes improved drainage away from buildings and access to exterior entrances, construct new storm sewer and lateral connections to roof drainage systems.

Cost: $95,000.

The Turtle Creek II project from 2015 is being continued into 2016.
