Vernon County officials work to solve ’84 murder
MADISON, Wis. — The Vernon County Sheriff’s Department is teaming up with the Department of Justice’s Cold Case Unit to try to solve a murder that happened 28 years ago.
Authorities say they are also trying to identify the victim — a woman who was found dead in rural Vernon County on May 4, 1984.
Retired Chief Deputy Sheriff Jim Hanson continues to work the case for Vernon County. He was the first patrol deputy on the scene in 1984. He and other investigators who have worked the case will release more information at noon on Thursday.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is also helping Wisconsin investigators.
