City to offer 86 community garden plots this year
The city of Austin is once again offering community garden plots to the community.
Located south of Woodson Kindergarten Center, residents can rent one of 86 plots, which measure 15-by-20 feet each. Parks, Recreation and Forestry Director Kim Underwood said it costs $20 to rent a plot, and plots would open later this spring as soon as the snow melts.
There is a sprinkler system installed at the community gardens, which water plants on a rotation.
In addition, city workers will leave excess mulch at a regular site just west of the city’s skate park on Hormel Drive. The city will sometime have compost as well.
