Hormel interns to lend a hand at fair

Hormel Foods Corp. is showing how much it cares about the Mower County Fair.

United Way of Mower County has a large group of Hormel interns and employees working on a project in advance of the annual Day of Caring.

Day of Caring is an annual volunteer day in Mower County that is held each fall. This year, with the help of some eager individuals at Hormel, good deeds are coming early for the Mower County Historical Society.

“Everyone is thrilled to give back to the community and help lend a hand,” said Karen Wiernik, product manager at Hormel Foods.

About 40 interns and employees will converge on the Mower County Historical Society Thursday evening to begin an extensive clean-up project and lighthearted competition. Volunteers will arrive at 5 p.m. and break into smaller teams. Each team will get a work project, time to complete the project and trivia to learn during their project. The team that finishes first and answers the most trivia correctly will receive recognition.

“This is a great event for everyone. We have a great working relationship with Hormel and their employees. They are definitely community focused,” said Mandi Lighthizer-Schmidt, Executive Director of the United Way of Mower County. “I suspect it will be great day and a lot of work will be completed just in time for the Mower County Fair.”

United Way’s seventh annual Day of Caring is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6. Visit www.uwmower.org for more details.
