Iowa high school senior killed in crash

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. — An 18-year-old from the Iowa town of Riceville has died in a crash involving a Minnesota Department of Transportation snowplow.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 10 p.m. Friday on an icy part of Highway 63, two miles south of Spring Valley in southeastern Minnesota.

Brooke Elliott was a passenger in a Buick headed south when a vehicle ahead of them turned left. The Buick then clipped a third vehicle that was also headed south. The Buick crossed into the northbound lane, into the path of a snowplow.

Elliott died at the scene. Riceville High School Principal Greg Adams tells the Mason City Globe-Gazette that Elliott had been the school’s homecoming queen.

The Patrol says everyone was wearing seat belts and no alcohol was involved.
