Students compete at career conference
The Austin High School DECA Chapter had 21 students compete at the DECA State Career Development Conference March 3-5 at the Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis. The students qualified for state at the District Competition in Owatonna in January.
Alex Thorson and Patrick Wagner will go on to compete in the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif., by finishing second in the sports and entertainment team decision making event.
Sean Coffey, Alex Hepler and Ryan Synoground finished fourth in the creative marketing event with their “Packer Water” Chapter Project. Rainer Londino-Green and Alex Laury also made the finals in the sports and entertainment operations research event, and Pat Wagner finished sixth in state in the advanced employment interview. Bailey Mueller, Sophia Thoen, Giancarlo Marconi and Sam Clasen were finalists in the marketing plan event.
Sean Coffey received the Outstanding DECA Member Award for AHS at State for his leadership and service to the DECA chapter. Giancarlo Marconi received an award for having one of the top marketing test scores in the state.
Other students that competed included Meredith Fritz, Steph Justice, Clyde Carver, Andrew Baker, Logan Hotek, Chris Brown, Gabe Kasak, Helen Heimark and Christine Barinka.
