Man posing as another convicted of forgery

An Austin man was sentenced Thursday in Mower County Court on forgery charges for posing under another person’s identity.

Javier Hernandez-Ortiz was convicted of felony forgery for use of false identification and sentenced to three years’ probation — if he is not deported. He is currently in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Police arrested Hernandez-Ortiz at about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 12 near the 700 block of 12th Ave. NW after they received a call from a 14-year-old girl’s parents who were holding Hernandez-Ortiz, according to the court complaint.

The complaint states the parents of the girl told officers that Hernandez-Ortiz followed their daughter home and was staring at their house from an alley. The victim also mentioned Hernandez-Ortiz was making strange noises toward her and saying “come here.” The victim allegedly recognized the man from two other occasions, one in which Hernandez-Ortiz followed her and another when he followed a different girl last summer, according to the complaint.

Hernandez-Ortiz provided authorities with a Missouri identification and claimed he was Mario Davila Jr., but authorities later discovered that Mario Davila Jr. is a registered sex offender in Texas, according to the complaint. Authorities later discovered Hernandez-Ortiz’s identity when one of his relatives provided officials with Hernandez-Ortiz’s Mexico birth certificate and Mexico Matricula Card.
