Another Republican enters fray vs. Sen. Klobuchar

ST. PAUL, Minn. — A third Minnesota Republican is moving ahead with a bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Amy Klobuchar in next year’s U.S. Senate race.

Anthony Hernandez opened his campaign with a call to curb spending and undo the new national health care law. The St. Paul native has never held political office but noted in his kickoff that Minnesota has elected outsiders before.

Hernandez is 32 and ran unsuccessfully for the state Senate in a heavily Democratic district in 2010.

Hernandez says he’ll abide by the choice GOP delegates make at next year’s convention and won’t run in a primary without the party endorsement. Other GOP candidates are former state Rep. Dan Severson and St. Bonifacius councilman Joe Arwood.

Frequent candidates Dick Franson and Jack Shepard are waging primary challenges to Klobuchar.
