Nelson brothers to bring show back to Midwest

The “Ricky Nelson Remembered” tour isn’t over yet. The two brothers, Matthew and Gunnar, who performed in Austin last fall, are on their way through Iowa. Their next show will be 7 p.m, April 14, at The Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood, Iowa.

According to Melissa Kucirek, concert promoter, the show has been well received. Last year’s tour marked the 25th anniversary of Ricky Nelson’s death in a New Year’s eve plane crash, and the duo is hitting the Midwest again.

“The Midwest has been pretty good for them,” Kucirek said.

“Ricky Nelson Remembered” is a multimedia event featuring the live music of Ricky Nelson’s hit songs (including “Hello Mary Lou,” “Travelin’ Man,” “Garden Party”) performed by Ricky’s twin sons, Matthew and Gunnar, and includes video footage of the Nelson family with interviews from celebrities influenced by Ricky Nelson. And according to Kucirek, even those who don’t know about the Nelsons can enjoy the concerts

“It truly appeals to so many different people,” she said. “It’s kind of a high-energy rock show meets an A&E biography.”

Spectators will get a glimpse in the life of the twins and what it was like for them growing up on screen and around celebrities from the Mamas and the Papas and the Beetles.
