Appreciates support for Bible event

Letter to the Editor

Becky Repinski, Chairperson, Austin Public Library Board

I wish to express sincere gratitude to everyone who made the Saint John’s Bible Reception on Sunday, Oct. 30, such a lovely and memorable event. This celebration of the arrival of a limited Heritage Edition of The Saint John’s Bible, which has been given to the City of Austin and the Austin Public Library by the Don and Dottie Hodapp family, was an occasion which will benefit the community for years to come.

The spirit of generosity and genuine appreciation for the people of Austin is evident through this timeless gift which is currently available for viewing in the Austin Public Library. Again, attention is to be given to the importance of this contribution. This is the first illuminated, handwritten Bible of monumental size to be commissioned by a Benedictine monastery in more than 500 years. While the original manuscript resides at St. John’s University, it is believed that this breathtaking seven-volume fine art reproduction is the first to be donated to a community library in the nation.

The public is invited to consult with the library about available times for public viewing.
