YMCA to hold Family Fun Night

Fitness, family and fun is the name of the game at the YMCA this week.

The YMCA of Austin will hold a Family Fun Night from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Friday at the YMCA, 704 First Drive NW. Activities will include an open swim, a gymnastics obstacle course, a basketball gym and a toddler gym, all of which guests can roam between.

Along with the athletic activities, organizers will provide crafts and serve a light meal and healthy snack.

“We get a few pizzas, and we have some fruit, water and crackers,” said Scott Simmons, the YMCA’s member experience director.

This is the first time the YMCA has held a Family Fun Night during the summer. In the past, organizers figured people would want to exercise and play games outside, Simmons said.

Despite the Y’s tendency to hold themed nights like last month’s Olympic-themed event, which drew 40 to 45 people, he said this one was more freeform.

“It’s a basic Family Fun Night,” Simmon said.

The Y will hold events like this monthly, from September through May. Those will mostly be themed, and can include anything from Flick and Float, where a movie is projected beside the pool, to Super Soaker night.

Families only need to bring what supplies they’d need for the activities, Simmons said.

The event is free to YMCA member families and $15 for each non-member family, regardless of family size. Call 507-433-1804 with questions.
