DC Drifters plan annual scary show

The DC Drifters are bringing some scary good times to Austin this Halloween.

Their annual Halloween party starts at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Eagles Club, a change in venue for a frightfully good party, according to band leader Denny Charnecki.

Along with a costume contest, the band will feature Austin High School Senior Jess Smith, who Charnecki says is very talented, while the band plays all the classics and some new tunes, too.

The DC Drifters aren’t just going bump in the night this week, as they’ll join several acts at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center in Albert Lea at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 3, reviving the classic 50s act they played at the Surf Ballroom in February. Called the “Three Stars Tribute,” the show features music from Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

That show, according to Charnecki, is a prelude to next February, where the DC Drifters will join many well-known groups like Eric Burdon and The Animals, The Hollies, and famous guitarist Albert Lee, who played with the likes of Emmylou Harris and Eric Clapton, for a 60s Invasion-themed extravaganza.

“Those are some of my heroes,” Charnecki said.
