Bears top Viking baseball team

BYRON — The Hayfield baseball team lost 5-1 at Byron (2-0 overall, 1-0 HVL) Tuesday.

The Vikings (2-1 overall, 2-1 HVL) took a 1-0 lead in the first and they had a chance to go up two in the second when Cam Rutledge laced a single into right field with two outs, but Carter Pesch was thrown out at the plate as he was trying to score from second.

“It took a perfect throw and their right fielder made one,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said. “We kind of lost a chance to gain some momentum on that one.”

The Bears took a 2-1 lead on a passed ball in the third and they added three more runs in the top of the sixth.

Hayfield pitching: Drew Streightiff, 5 IP, 4 H, 4 BB, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 K, HBP; Kruger, 1 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 3 ER, 1 K

Hayfield hitting: Kruger, 0-for-3, R, SB, BB; Streightiff, 1-for-2; Connor Nelson, 1-for-2; JB Stackhouse, 1-for-3; Carter Pesch, 1-for-2, BB; Cam Rutledge, 1-for-3
