Duluth floodwaters flow to Carlton, Pine counties
STURGEON LAKE, Minn. (AP) — The floodwaters that swamped Duluth are rushing south and causing problems in Carlton and Pine counties.
Pine County Chief Deputy Steve Blackwell says deputies rescued a man whose panel truck was swept off the highway Thursday morning near the town of Sturgeon Lake. He says deputies on a boat pulled an elderly man from his trailer near Rutledge Wednesday night after flood waters knocked it off its foundation.
Blackwell says most residents near several rivers knew floodwaters would come and evacuated on their own. Some are staying in temporary shelters in the towns of Askov (AS’-kuv) and Moose Lake.
Emergency officials say many highways and roads in St. Louis, Carlton and Pine counties remain closed. They say drivers should not go around barricades or drive through floodwaters under any circumstances.
