Highway 63 detour begins Monday

Road construction season is back in full swing this summer.

People driving along Highway 63 between the Iowa border and Spring Valley will encounter a detour beginning Monday as concrete road repair work begins, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

The $3.6 million project by prime contractor PCI Roads will involve concrete pavement repairs, shoulder replacement, repairs to a bridge and culvert work along the 13-mile stretch south of Spring Valley. The work is expected to be completed by early July.

There will be a detour during the duration of the project. The northbound detour route is Highway 56 west from the Iowa border through LeRoy, Minnesota, and then Mower County Road 14 north to Highway 16 east until it connects with Highway 63 west of Spring Valley. The detour is in reverse for southbound traffic.

To learn more about the concrete pavement rehabilitation process, go to MnDOT’s Road Knowledge site at: www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/information/cpr/cpr.html.

MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones. For real-time traffic and travel information in Minnesota, visit www.511mn.org or get the free smartphone app at Google Play or the App Store.
