Last of 5 allegedly armed burglars sentenced

The last of five men who burglarized a home at gunpoint last year was sentenced to more than two years in prison Thursday.

Goaner Riek Weang, 25, was sentenced to 27 months in prison on a felony first-degree burglary charge. He will get credit for time served since January.

The home invasion took place on Feb. 27, when police received a report of a small group of men breaking into a house in the 800 block of Eighth Avenue SW. According to court documents, the men brought two shotguns.

The men demanded money and marijuana, and when they were unable to find either, they took a cell phone and a laptop.

Chany Paul Anade, 22, was sentenced to 51 months in prison for his involvement in the burglary. Weang is Anade’s cousin and was at large for some time. Ojulu Obang Onyongo, 20, was sentenced to nine years in prison in connection with a shooting last March, but received a 58-month sentence to run concurrently for the February burglary. Ochudho Jamal Ojulu, 22, was sentenced to 20 years probation on one count of first-degree burglary for the February incident. Kevin Michael Lyke, 21, was sentenced to 74 months in prison in connection with the same shooting last March as Onyongo.

Two other charges for Weang, first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, were both dismissed in a plea agreement in March.

Weang also signed a Padilla vs. Kentucky waiver in March, admitting he is not a U.S. citizen, and he could be deported.
