Minneapolis events mark Humphrey’s 100th birthday
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey Jr. is being celebrated in Minnesota on what would have been his 100th birthday Friday.
A series of events is drawing political names ranging from former Vice President Walter Mondale to Gov. Mark Dayton and former Govs. Al Quie and Arne Carlson. Humphrey’s son, Hubert H. “Skip” Humphrey III, is also taking part.
The lineup includes discussions of Humphrey’s legacy and leadership awards named after Humphrey.
The celebration is held at Minneapolis City Hall, where Humphrey served as mayor before going on to the U.S. Senate and the White House.
Humphrey died in Waverly, Minn., on Jan. 13, 1978.
