Local accused of insurance fraud
An Austin man on trial for a June robbery and assault case has been charged for illegally trying to obtain medical treatment.
Willister Davenport, 40, was charged last Friday with insurance fraud and wrongfully obtaining assistance, both felonies.
According to the court complaint, Davenport used his son’s Ucare card to get treatment for methadone at Rochester Metro Treatment Center. The complaint adds Davenport used the card to receive rides from The Mower County Senior Center to the treatments and also tried to receive transportation reimbursement from Mower County Human Services. Authorities began investigating the case several weeks ago and found Davenport’s alleged treatment dates to be consistent with the dates he signed in to use the senior center’s bus.
Davenport has an initial appearance in Mower County Court Aug. 30.
Davenport was charged in June for first-degree aggravated robbery and second- and third-degree assault for allegedly chasing a man on a bike and assaulting him to get back money he was owed. He has pleaded not guilty in that case.
