LYLE — The Lyle-Pacelli boys basketball team had its second lowest scoring output of the season as it struggled on both ends of the court in a 74-37 loss to Goodhue in Lyle Monday.

The Athletics had more turnovers (38) than points and they were never closer than 12 in the second half.

“We have to learn to take care of the ball,” LP assistant coach Dean DeBoer said. “Goodhue’s a good team and they play in a very tough conference. We couldn’t match their physicality. When you get down, you have to play fast and that leads to more turnovers.”

The Athletics (12-10 overall) jumped out to an 8-4 lead when David Diang, who had 11 points, five rebounds and four steals, converted a lay-up, but the Wildcats (10-11 overall) used a 12-0 run to take the lead for good.

LP did piece together a 7-0 run that was capped by a Jordan Hart lay-up to make it 25-19 with 6:36 left in the half, but it scored just eight points over the next 24 minutes.

“Goodhue’s a big game for us as far as trying to figure out where we’re going as a program,” DeBoer said. “At this point of the year, you’d like to be playing your best basketball. We have some work to do and I think we can get it done.”

LP will has three more games remaining until the Section 1A tournament begins.

“We can play better than we did tonight,” DeBoer said. “In order to do that, we need do the little things. The fifty-fifty plays that we don’t always get, we need to get those.”
